Mental Health Data App
NHS : 2016

Visualising data

What is it?

A performance related tool for collaboration amongst hospitals GP’s and patients in identifying areas of concern and ways to improve their service through learning.

Who is it for?

  • Commissioners/providers
  • NHS Trusts  – Clinicians, finance, data analysts
  • Local Authorities – Health & Wellbeing boards
  • All current stakeholders where we have data on our site e.g GPs, consultants, care homes etc
  • Third sector e.g Healthwatch & similar bodies

Challenges faced

  • No parity in the UK between Physical & Mental health
  • Acces to accurate data
  • Short timeframe of two months till the annual Health conference
  • Limited time to conduct research

Areas to focus on using hypothesis and algorithms

Do we have enough services?

How are they performing?

How does my organisation compare nationally & regionally?

What is the turnaround time for my region?

All data is visualised like so:

  • UK (higher level)

  • Regions

  • Trusts

  • Organisations (granular detail)

Overall; it would be powerful to compare Mental Health metrics with similar illnesses that over long periods of time, need constant care, rehab & monitoring.

Wireframes to test our hypothesis

A) Admissions on a yearly & monthly basis

  • This will show the breadth of the MH problem in the country. Which regions are coping, which ones are stretched.

B) Waiting time from referral to treatment (compare trust to trust, organisation to organisation)

  • Which organisations and trusts have the required level of support, and which organisations require more support?

C) Self referral or GP referral waiting time

  • Are we getting it right online as opposed to face-to-face, and which is the quicker of the two?  Does it reduce the amount of GP visits?

D) Type of MH illnesses admissions, and time of year admission spikes

  • Is there a trend developing of common illnesses in certain areas, and does the seasonal changes have any effect in a certain region?
  • I’d like to work in this area as I practise or mentor in their more common illness identified.

E) Higher to lower amount of organisations per region

  • Which regions have the most support and which regions require more support? Budget differences between the organisations

F) Would you recommend your local organisation to a friend

  • Is this an organisation I’d want to work for, can I help improve it possibly?

G) Overall contrasts between home and hospital treatment

  • Does remote mentoring work as well as face-to-face mentoring?
  • Does this aid the CRHT team in the long run?
